What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini Yoga is known as “The Yoga of Awareness” and was brought to the West in the late 1960s by Yogi Bhajan. Its aim is to awaken the energies within you so you can experience your own excellence. As you practice you become more aware of who you are and you will be given the tools to grow and flourish.
How much space do I need to have in my home and what do I need to provide?
All you need is a room with enough space for two yoga mats. If the weather is nice and you have a shaded, flat space outside that works, too! You provide your own mat, a cushion or blanket to sit on during meditation, and a blanket to cover up with during deep relaxation. I will bring my own mat and blanket and music for our session.
My house is busy and I’m worried we’ll be disturbed.
I totally understand! I have a little one who loves to hop on the mat with me. Most of my clients find it is best to schedule when their children are at school or their partner can have fun with them on the weekend. But, no worries, a little interruption now and then just allows us to hone our zen yogi skills.
What do I wear?
Comfortable clothing that you can easily move in is best for practicing Kundalini Yoga. It is traditional to wear white, but it is not necessary.
Can I eat before class?
It is best to practice on an empty stomach, so please don’t eat at least 2 hours before class. Something light, like a piece of fruit is okay.
Can I drink water during class?
Yes, please hydrate as much as you need!
I’ve never done Kundalini Yoga before, is it physically challenging?
Kundalini Yoga can be very physically challenging, but each class is tailored with your physical abilities in mind. Nearly every exercise can be modified for beginners and if you’re looking for a big challenge you won’t be disappointed.
